Jim Siemer is an artist from Columbus, Ohio whose family built a cottage on Middle Bass Island in 1983 and Jim was inspired by the beauty of the Lake Erie area to begin painting watercolors. Jim believes that Ohio is one of the most beautiful states in our nation and over the last 20 years he has painted numerous watercolors capturing Ohio's splendor. Prints of Jim's Lake Erie watercolors are available in Lake Erie area gift shops and galleries on Middle Bass Island, Port Clinton, Put-in-Bay, Catawba Island, Marblehead and Vermilion. Jim recently launched a website called LakeErieArt.com where it is possible to order his art online.

Schedel Gardens Hosts Mazur Exhibit
Schedel Arboretum & Gardens, 19255 W. Portage River S. Rd., Elmore
Contrasts will be showing now through October in the Brown Welcome Center at the Schedel Gardens. Mazur has won numerous awards for both his artwork and teaching, including being twice honored with the Dorothy Uber Bryan award for outstanding service to the school of art and its students at BGSU. Mazur added, "For the very first time I'm combining "seascapes" with "landscapes" in hope they will emphasize each other's color strengths." He has done just that according to Pat and Marilyn McAlear (pictured) for whom the McAlear Gallery at SA&G is named. Mazur's works are quite large, some more than 4 feet by 6 feet and the abstracts just jump out at you according to the gallery's benefactors.

Annual Brewery Festival: Milan Brewhaha

Celebrating the town's brewing heritage, the Milan Historical Museum is hosting this new afternoon event. The Milan Brewing Company was established in the 1850s, and produced prize-winning beer for 100 years. The Brewery program will include temporary exhibits of the Brewery's memorabilia, local beer tastings and products, museum tours, raffles and more. In 1901, during the Chicago World's Fair, the Milan Brewing Company's beer took a blue ribbon prize, with the slogan "the beer that made Milwaukee jealous". Although no beer from Milan is available, guests will enjoy locally produced, seasonal Put-in-Bay Brewing Company beer tastings. Tokens will be available for additional tastings and raffle tickets.
