The Wildlife Art of Bob Hines

Ohio native Robert Hines (1912-1994) holds the distinction of being the only U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employee hired as a full-time artist. His official title was "National Wildlife Artist." Hines developed his love of nature growing up along the verdant banks of the Sandusky River in Fremont, Ohio. Despite almost no formal training, his artistic talent was recognized worldwide. Hines also was key in developing the federal Duck Stamp program and had one of his works accepted. This exclusive exhibit showcases his life and his work on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth. Closed on Mondays.

SA&G 7th Annual Photography Contest

Open to any amateur photographers. Deadline for entry is September 12, 2012. All photography must be taken in SA&G between September 2011 & August 31, 2012. An open house reception for all entries will be held to unveil the winners. An exhibit in the Trellis Gallery will feature the top 25 awarded entries through October 31. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place, special merit (up to 5), and a Director's award. Entry form and guidelines available on our website.

Pre-Conceived Objects

The Sandusky Cultural Center provides educational and entertaining exhibits that stimulate an interest in the fine arts. They provide a focus for multicultural awareness and introduce complex issues and challenging concepts. The featured exhibit is Pre-Conceived Objects. The Gallery is closed on Saturdays, school holidays, vacations & "snow days", etc.

In 1983, Jim Siemer's family built a cottage on Middle Bass Island where he was inspired by the beauty and splendor of the Lake Erie area to begin printing watercolors. He is honored to exhibit his work painted over the last 20 years to reveal to all that the Lake Erie region is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

"Funny You Don't Look Like a Grandmother" (A Musical Revue)

A humorous, heartwarming revue that looks at modern grandmothers in a whole new light. These are the women who have thrown away the granny glasses, shapeless black dresses and Red Cross shoes and replaced them with cute little tennis tresses, skis and a condo in Florida. The show celebrates these changes with skits and songs about everything from what to name the grandmother to her availability as a baby sitter, her job, friends, activities, new interest in shopping, but most of all, her relationship to that incredible new baby and its parents. Whether you are a grandparent or a grandchild, every generation of your family will love this show!

Math and Science Week

Students (grades K-12) can learn about the science behind their favorite thrill rides as they make their way through the new Math and Science Zone on the Main Midway. Special money-saving offers are available for groups.

Refuge Bus Tours

Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is offering bus trips to various points of interest on both Ottawa and Cedar Point NWRs through the month of May. Seating is limited and you must make a reservation by calling the Visitor Center. Busses will leave from the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center parking lot at 7 am and trips will last about 3 hours. Refuge staff will be driving the bus and will gladly interpret refuge management and your wildlife experience during the tour.

The Gilded Age of Haviland China Exhibit

In the early 19th century, Americans looked to Europe when purchasing china. When importer David Haviland no longer could satisfy his customers' tastes for embellished fine china, good-old American ingenuity came into play. Haviland built his own factory in Limoges, France, to turn out the finest china in the world with artistic flourishes to satisfy his U.S. customers. Numerous examples of some of the earliest pieces of Haviland China (1850-1890) are on display in this unique exhibit.
